EgyptAir hijack: Jet lands at Larnaca airport

An EgyptAir airliner has been hijacked and forced to divert to Larnaca airport on the south coast of Cyprus.
Flight MS181, an Airbus A320 carrying 81 passengers from Alexandria to Cairo, was taken over after a passenger said he was wearing an explosives belt.
Negotiations are under way but no demands have been made by those in control of the plane, reports say.
A local journalist has told the BBC that some passengers had been seen leaving the plane.
Larnaca airport has been closed and scheduled flights diverted elsewhere.

Sounds like one nutter and is supposed to be strapped with explosives all but 4 passengers have left the plane all of the crew are still on board.

They suggested on teh radio earlier that one of teh demainds they made was no police and they confirmed they would allow all Egypticans off of teh plane....slightly worrying...

While these activities grab the headlines, they will continue.
Such news should be reported as a few lines on some obscure web page somewhere and people then actually have to put some effort into finding out the details (if they actually give a fuck).
Take out the whole "Look at me!" aspect and it becomes a much less attractive option.

Am staying in North Cyprus whicjlh is much nicer, quieter etc... Got a hire car booked at Larnaca so was going to drive across the border, fuck knows now?

if you go to cyprus, you have to stay in Girne and climb up to St Hilarion castle.
Also the strip clubs are better in the south, ive been told.

Seriously I would hope that they would be able to send some flights in to Paphos instead. A decent airport that never seems to be very busy whenever I've been there.
Hopefully some spare capacity there that they can use in this particular situation?
